About 1st Wigton B-P Scouts
1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts was founded early in 1998. The Group is led by Julie Bryceson, who has over 40 years Scouting experience.
All leaders in the Group have enhanced DBS checks every 3 years and child protection training annually, the majority have undertaken basic and advanced training in Scouting and/or First Aid. There are currently 11 leaders working with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scouts.
Each Section meets in Blencogo Village Hall, Wigton, although many meetings are outdoors either on our Scout land or our woodland, particularly from Easter onwards. Great emphasis is placed on traditional Scouting. Years of experience says that young people like to be challenged physically and mentally. Our Scouts have built shelters and camped in below zero temperatures WITHOUT sleeping bags. They have skinned, gutted and cooked rabbit over an open fire, lit fires in monsoon conditions and hiked up Lake District fells in snow. The Scouts spent 3 weeks in Canada, part of which was hiking along the Niagara Escarpment. Seniors spent a week hiking in Sweden, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons in recent years.

The Group has its own minibus and any children travelling in this, or any other transport to events, must wear full 3 point seat belts.
Waiting lists are in place for most sections, but once a child is admitted to the Group, they automatically move up to the next section. If you are interested in obtaining a place for your child, please use the "Contact Us" link on this site and you will be sent further information.
